It’s no secret. I love Richardson’s work. His aesthetic and his unapologetic/voyeuristic disposition are what have captured me. His ability to use the camera as a tool for his audience by grabbing a subject’s soul or a core emotion, is incredibly moving. Richardson’s most personal works, for example, he and his father in an embrace or the peonies that periodically appear with titles like “My Favorites” are the prime example of his consistency in style. The way that Richardson is able to turn the camera and use the same voyeuristic and intrusive perspective on himself to expose the core of his emotions is in one word, brave.
Gaga is talented, empowering, and has won my heart a million times over. Whether it is charity work for young children or being unapologetic for lending a voice to the silenced, she is warrior of peace and love. She is an artist and humanitarian that spreads messages of hope in times and places where it has been muddied by exclusion.
These photos are incredibly fun & provocative, qualities that are not the easiest to marry.
Remember Heroin Chic? Trainspotting just reminded me of the whole fashion movement. Thinking back it probably was inspired by the look Edie Sedgwick and re-appropriated in the 90’s by models like Kate Moss & James King (now called Jaime, an actual recovered addict) and musician Fiona Apple.
Anyway, it feels so long ago. Fashion seems nothing like this anymore to me.
